What is a haunted history tour?
A haunted history tour is a walking tour where guides take you to locations which have a history of dark tales and/or paranormal activity. You will hear documented tales of hauntings, as well as some of Terre Haute’s dark history.
Do you make your stories up?
No, the stories in this tour have been researched; almost all are supported by newspaper articles and books. The tour will include some of the rich history of Terre Haute, as well as information on the ghosts that have been known to haunt the area.
Do you go inside buildings on the tour?
No, we do not go inside any buildings during the Downtown Haunted History Tour or the Sins and Spirits Tour..
How scary is the tour?
We do not have actors that will jump out to scare you like those found at a Professional Haunted House but some of the stories can tend to be a bit morbid and maybe a little dark.
How much does the tour cost?
The Downtown Haunted History Tour are $20 for adults and children over the age of 10. Due to the subject matter of the tours, it is not recommended for children under 10 years of age. Tickets for the Sins and Spirits Tour are $15.00 per person. This tour is not recommended for anyone under the age of 16.
When are the tours?
We offer evening tours on Saturdays April through October. There will also be special Halloween tours on October 31st.
How long does each tour take?
The Haunted History Walking Tour lasts about 90 minutes while the Sins and Spirits Tour lasts about 60 minutes.
Is the tour wheelchair accessible?
Th Both tours are wheelchair accessible.
Is the tour pet friendly?
Yes. We welcome all pets
Are children allowed on the tour?
Children 10 and older are allowed on the Haunted History Walking Tour but the Sins and Spirit Tour is for those age 16 and older. Please use your judgment about whether this is something your child would enjoy.
How do I buy tickets?
You may purchase tickets through the ticket links on our website. If a tour is not full, we DO accept walk-ups of CASH payments only. If a tour has not booked any patrons 90 minutes prior to its start time, the tour will cancel. Therefore, if you wish to attend without a reservation, we strongly suggest calling 812-230-2127 an hour before the start to ensure the tour is still scheduled.
Where does the tour begin?
The tours begin at the Max Erhmann statue at the corner of 7th Street and Wabash Avenue in Downtown Terre Haute. Please arrive fifteen minutes prior to your scheduled tour time.
Where do we park?
Street parking is available, but limited. There are two parking garages located nearby. Please DO NOT park in the Hilton Garden parking lot. Your vehicle WILL BE towed.
What should I bring with me?
Comfortable shoes are a must! As we will be outdoors, water is also a good idea and also remember to wear weather appropriate attire.
What happens if it rains or snows?
We do our tours rain or shine, as long as conditions are not dangerous. If we have to cancel a tour, we will give you the option to reschedule for a later date. What happens if I am late for a tour?
Because we usually have other guests as well, our tours do leave on time. However, if you know that you will be running late, please call as soon as possible.
How much walking is involved with each tour?
The tours are approximately 1 mile in length or shorter, with several stops for stories along the way.
Are cameras allowed?
Yes, we encourage guests to bring cameras and also to share any interesting photos they may catch.
Is tipping allowed?
Yes, while of course not required, if you have enjoyed your tour, tips are greatly appreciated.
Do you offer private tours?
Private Tours Are Available for Groups up to 25 and as low as 10 (and anywhere in-between) people. The Haunted History Tours are great for bachelorette parties, private groups and corporate events. Please contact us directly to schedule a private tour.
